Angelika, first stop Mayfair

Piccadilly at a quarter to nine, the buses sliding past Green Park in one long red blur, and Angelika already halfway across the hotel lobby. Her black hair falls long and perfectly straight, and her brown eyes take in the room once before settling on you. She dresses with a relaxed kind of glamour, a dark silk dress, bare arms, a single bracelet, nothing that begs to be noticed and everything that is.

What surprises people is how playful she turns out to be. The confidence is real, but so is the laugh, and it arrives early. Angelika speaks fluent English at a warm, measured pace, and she is happiest on the subjects she genuinely loves: contemporary art, the sort she will cross town to see twice, and jazz played in small rooms where nobody lifts a phone. Mayfair is her own neighbourhood, so her evenings here have a local's shape. She might suggest an hour among the Cork Street galleries while their windows are still lit, then a table at Hide on Piccadilly, where the curving oak staircase alone justifies the reservation. Afterwards the stroll back along Dover Street is slow on purpose.
