Events and galas, a plus one who makes a ballroom feel smaller

London stages its grand evenings in beautiful rooms: an awards dinner beneath the chandeliers of the Great Room at Grosvenor House on Park Lane, a charity gala under the vaulted ceiling of a South Kensington museum, a reception at Banqueting House on Whitehall with Rubens looking down from above. Walking into rooms like those alone is perfectly possible. Walking in beside someone composed, curious and easy to introduce is a great deal more enjoyable.

An event companion is booked for her poise and her conversation, and she comes properly briefed. Because an event takes a whole evening out of her diary and often involves tickets and careful timing, it is secured with half the fare as a deposit, paid by bank transfer, and the travel share of that deposit cannot be refunded.

The briefing she will ask for

A day or two ahead, send the desk the venue, the timings, the dress code and anything else that helps: how you would like her introduced, who is likely to share your table, which subjects are best left alone. She will never claim a profession she does not have or a connection she cannot carry off, and a simple, friendly introduction by first name is almost always the smoothest choice.

Rooms we are asked to walk into

London's event calendar keeps a steady rhythm. Autumn fills the Park Lane ballrooms with awards dinners and the museums of South Kensington with charity galas. Conference weeks in Westminster end with receptions around Parliament Square and the Queen Elizabeth II Centre. First nights at the Royal Opera House bring the dinner jackets out in Covent Garden, and a client dinner in the private room of a Mayfair hotel can quietly become the most important evening of an entire trip. By December, the Christmas party season has added long, candlelit tables in the grand hotels of Mayfair to the list.

Choosing how long to book

A drinks reception followed by a short dinner fits comfortably into three hours at £1,050. A seated gala with speeches usually wants the four hour length at £1,300, counted from the moment she meets you before the doors open. If the night may run on, say so when you book; any extra time is set down in writing before it starts, and an evening that should end at breakfast is written as the night rider overnight from the start.

Girls who shine in a full ballroom

Karolina, tall and slim with long black hair, is a pianist and an opera lover who enjoys a good architecture walk, and her dry humour makes an interval conversation a small pleasure. Sonya, in her thirties with a ballet dancer's quiet grace and a deep knowledge of fragrance, is serene in any formal room and ideal for an early reception.

Angelika follows contemporary art closely and holds her own at any gallery opening, and Milena, 175 cm and refreshingly direct, looks entirely at home beneath a photographer's flash. Karolina, Angelika and Milena are all among our statuesque companions.

The client dinner after a long conference day

Not every business evening calls for black tie. After a day of sessions at the conference centre or back to back meetings in St James's, a dinner for four in a private dining room can matter more than any gala. She is just as comfortable there: lounge suits, a relaxed menu, and talk that stays with travel, food and the city until the business is ready to be discussed, at which point she steps back with perfect grace.

On the night itself

She arrives a little early and dressed precisely to the code, whether black tie or lounge suits. At the table she listens more than she speaks, asks good questions and knows when to let a business conversation carry on without her. Treat her as you would any guest: introduce her, include her and keep the drinks sensible. If you need a private word with a client, a quick glance is enough, and she will find someone interesting at the bar.

Your name stays out of it

The desk asks only what it needs: your full name and hotel, confirmed once over WhatsApp, plus whatever event details you choose to share. Nothing is posted, photographed or mentioned afterwards. If there is a press wall or a photographer at the entrance, tell us, and she will step out of the pictures unless you would like otherwise. The complete process is on the booking page.

Events and galas, asked

Two days is comfortable, and a week is ideal for black tie. Mention the dress code early so the right evening wear is ready.

An event takes a full evening out of her diary and usually involves planning around tickets and timings. The deposit comes off the final fare, and the only part you cannot get back is what covers her travel.

Yes. She is used to formal rooms, keeps conversation light and courteous, and follows your lead on how much to say about how you know each other.

Yes. Put the dinner into the timings you send and choose a length that covers both; four hours often does.

Yes. Beyond Zones 1 and 2 we quote her travel there and back before you say yes, and an event that needs a hotel stay is arranged like our trips away, with the same 50 percent deposit.
